I want to get a replacement Smiths voltmeter for my 71 Lotus Elan. I have measured the outer ring and is 55mm. Will this 52mm body fit into it?

Yes the Smiths CAI voltmeter will fit. The 52mm refers to the size of the hole in the dashboard the outer diameter of the bezel on the Caerbont gauges is 55mm.
