One of our most popular product ranges are the electric water pumps manufactured by Davies Craig. In essence, these replace the belt-driven mechanical water pump that is normally found bolted to the engine.
The EWP gives a much higher flow rate than the mechanical version but more importantly allows the flow to be controlled rather than it running at engine speed, flat out, like the mechanical one would do. There are also other benefits of fitting an EWP, such as; increased engine power as the mechanical pump would cause a drag on the engine, sapping power. The EWP when purchased as a kit with the controller allows the user to set lots of high and low coolant temperature alarms, display faults and control the water pump from one neat screen, something you cannot do with a mechanical pump. It can also be set up to run-on after engine shut down, keeping the heat soak at bay and preventing the temperature from creeping up.
Below you’ll find a brief comparison between the different sized pumps to help you purchase the correct EWP for your vehicle.

Other Considerations -
If you are not keen on ripping the cooling system to bits to fit an EWP, there are alternative options.
EBP25 - Davies Craig Brushless Electric Booster Pump (9025) EBP25
EBP40 - Davies Craig EBP40 Electric Booster Pump
EBP means ‘Electric Booster Pump’. All three of these pumps are ideal for acting as a booster pump to help circulate more water around the cooling system, especially on engines which maybe have a small capacity mechanical water pump and need that little extra boost to help it flow or for preventing heat soak from engine water temp after the engine has been shut down. These could also be ideal for charge-air-cooler installations.
These booster pumps can be fitted into the heater hoses of your engine or linked between the top and bottom radiator hoses and can be switched on as and when they are required or wired to a thermostat to control the flow. The engine will retain the standard mechanical water pump. EBP25 – Max 27 litres per minute flow. EBP40 – Max 37 litres per minute flow. Bosch Electric Water Pump – Max 15 litres per minute flow.
