Why is the family of Merlin repackable racing silencers not road legal?
There are two main reasons why the Merlin repackable racing silencers are not
road legal. The first being it is not stamped to any sort of type
approval, which some MOT testers/IVA inspectors will not accept.
Secondly, because it is a 'repackable' silencer, it is not 100% sealed
and so some exhaust gases can escape around the end caps, which again,
some MOT testers do not like.
Having said the above, we have had customers fit them to vehicles which
have passed many MOT's without issue. But we just have to make
customers aware that strictly speaking, they are not road legal.
